About Us

At The Golden Guernsey Trust we have the largest herd of Golden Guernsey’s in the U.K. and our future plans include a breeding programme to safeguard them as an important part of the UK’s Farm Animal Genetic Resources (FAnGR).

Your support is crucial to the survival of this breed for the future and by donating even the smallest amount or sponsoring a goat you can be directly involved in helping this to happen.

We believe that encouraging younger generations to learn about and care for these animals is the way forward for the breed, so to this end we intend to develop the website to include webcams of the herd in their environment, which will offer a unique and universally accessible opportunity to see a herd of this size and to observe it’s behaviour.

To complement this experience and to make it more meaningful to a younger audience we plan to develop an educational section with quizzes, and opportunity for involvement in decision making regarding the future of the herd and individual animals within it when sponsored or adopted, this fosters care for the animal and is supported by updates on his or her progress as an individual and within the herd.

Further plans include expansion of nucleus groups of animals to other suitable countries.

Although we are mainly involved with the Golden Guernsey, we also acknowledge the importance of the many breeds which make up the species, and care and husbandry are common to all.

Education and collective knowledge sharing is of great help to beginners in the subject as well as to those requiring more in depth information on animal management so to this end we consider it important to hold a database of goat related information on all levels and a forum where like minded people can exchange ideas, knowledge and experience.

If you feel that you would like to be involved or could contribute to any of the above mentioned aspects of the Golden Guernsey Trust’s activities we should be most pleased to hear from you.

The herd has been developing for the last 12 years and continues to develop. Most of our personal monies goes to support the present and future of the Golden Guernsey, including its environment and eco-system. For the last 4 years the herd has been assisted and protected by the Charitable Trust.
